Building the future of AI in the water sector together

On September 10, 2026 the Royal Netherlands Water Network (KNW) is hosting the first AI-Waterlab: an interactive event where professionals from the drinking water and wastewater sectors explore the possibilities of artificial intelligence (AI) and apply them directly to current practical challenges.

The AI-Waterlab is not a traditional workshop or knowledge session, but a hands-on working session for a select group of professionals who already have experience with AI. In small teams, participants will work on concrete challenges in the water sector, such as asset management, process optimization, and the smart integration of data sources. Using the latest AI techniques and vibe coding , they will develop working prototypes in a single half-day session that demonstrate what is already possible today.

By combining practical knowledge from the water sector with modern AI tools, KNW aims to create an environment where participants learn not only from the technology, but especially from each other. The focus is on experimenting, collaborating, and translating innovative ideas into applicable solutions.

“The power of this event lies in building together. It’s not about talking about AI, but experiencing what AI can actually mean for daily practice in the water sector.”
